Kazakhstan explains reasons for abolishing its trade representative office in Russia

02 February 2023

The decision of the government of Kazakhstan on abolition of the trade representative office in Russia is caused by optimization of administrative structures and development of work within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Commission that allows the countries to cooperate to the full extent, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan Yerulan Zhamaubaev told reporters on Thursday.

"Optimization of redundant structures is in progress. When we were saying that we had very close relations with the Russian Federation, it was meant that we have the Eurasian Economic Commission. Kazakhstan is well represented there, there are competent people in all fields, including entrepreneurship, who can solve issues while being in Moscow," he commented on the decision to abolish the trade mission of Kazakhstan in Russia.

According to him, the embassy of Kazakhstan operates in Moscow with a sufficient number of employees, as well as members of various government agencies work in the diplomatic mission. In this case, employees of trade representation of Kazakhstan can be reassigned to address other issues.

On February 1, the press service of the ministry of trade and integration of Kazakhstan reported that as part of the process of optimizing the government agencies work, given the high level of interaction with Russia, it was decided to abolish the trade mission of the republic in Russia. This is due to the fact that all the institutional conditions have now been created for Kazakh business to work in the Russian direction and solve all operational issues.
