Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry confirms holding meeting on Syria on November 22-23

Another international meeting on Syria in Astana format (Russia, Iran, Turkey) will be held on November 22-23. The participants of the talks on Syria in Astana will discuss the situation on the ground and measures for the release of hostages. Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry spokesman Aibek Smadiyarov said this at a briefing on Monday.


"On November 22-23, Astana will host the next, 19th international meeting on Syria in the Astana format. Delegations from Russia, Turkey, Iran, the Syrian government and the Syrian opposition will take part in the talks. Representatives of the UN, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq are expected to arrive as observers," Smadiyarov said.


He said the agenda includes the situation on the ground in Syria, comprehensive promotion of the political process, confidence-building measures, including the release of hostages and the search for the missing. The sides will also discuss the mobilization of efforts of the international community in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2642 for the post-conflict reconstruction of Syria and creation of conditions for the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.


Earlier, Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, told journalists that the next international meeting on Syria in the Astana format would be held on November 22-23.
