Kazakhstan's National Security Committee (KNB) successfully thwarted plans for four terror attacks, detaining 44 individuals suspected of involvement in terrorism and extremism. This update came following a briefing by KNB Chairman Yermek Sagimbaev to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
According to the report, 84 individuals were convicted this year on charges related to terrorism and extremism. Six Kazakh citizens wanted for terrorist crimes were extradited from Syria and Turkey, with two already convicted. The KNB also blocked 824 foreign nationals with links to terrorism and extremism from entering the country.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the KNB dismantled 19 organized criminal groups, arresting 60 individuals. Authorities seized 505 firearms, five homemade explosive devices, 45 flash grenades, and over 15,000 rounds of ammunition from illegal circulation.
Additionally, law enforcement neutralized 33 drug production laboratories and disrupted 66 drug trafficking routes, both regional and international. Over 3.2 tons of narcotics, 4.5 tons of raw opium straw, and 18.8 tons of precursors were confiscated. This led to the conviction of 162 individuals for drug-related offenses.
At the country’s borders, security forces intercepted approximately 55,000 violators and prevented over 1,300 attempts to smuggle weapons, ammunition, drugs, and other prohibited items. Twenty illegal migration routes were also dismantled.
