Kazakhstan's President to Participate in BRICS Summit via Video Link on August 24

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is set to take part in the XV BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) summit in Johannesburg on August 24 through a video conference,  the press service of the Kazakh leader reported.

 

"On August 24, 2023, the head of state, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, will participate via video-conference in the meeting of the Dialogue of Heads of State in the format of 'BRICS plus,' which will be held within the framework of the XV BRICS summit in Johannesburg," the report reads.

 

Notably, as the acting chairman of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, President Tokayev will deliver his remarks at the meeting upon the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

 

The BRICS summit, scheduled from August 22 to 24 in Johannesburg, marks a significant gathering of heads of state and government from the Global South. Invitations have been extended to the leaders of 54 African countries. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will head the Russian delegation at the event, while Russian President Vladimir Putin will contribute via videoconference. The outcomes of the summit will be enshrined in the Johannesburg Declaration of the XV BRICS summit, according to the Kremlin press service.
