King Mohammed VI of Morocco called for an end to the fighting in the Gaza Strip and emphasized the importance of opening political avenues to establish a just and lasting peace in the region during his address to the nation on the occasion of Throne Day on July 30.
“It is with a sense of responsibility and commitment that we continue to support constructive initiatives aimed at finding practical solutions that will achieve a real and lasting ceasefire and normalization of the humanitarian situation [in the Gaza Strip],” stated the King in his televised address. “If ending the fighting in the Gaza Strip is an urgent priority, it must be done in parallel with opening political perspectives that can lead to a just and lasting peace in the region,” he added.
Moroccan authorities and the public have traditionally maintained a keen interest in the developments of the Middle East conflict. King Mohammed VI serves as the chairman of the Jerusalem Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), focusing on preserving the spiritual and civilizational significance of Jerusalem, while promoting its role as a center of tolerance and peace.
