US President Donald Trump may be looking for a "short and victorious war" to boost his political standing, but a conflict with Iran would be neither, said Russian Federation Council Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev during a broadcast on Channel One.
“Trump has already failed to show effective results on other foreign policy fronts—where’s Canada? Where’s Greenland? What’s going on with the Ukraine crisis? He desperately needs a small, victorious war. But if he thinks he’ll find that in Iran, it would be a colossal mistake. Such a war would be neither small nor victorious,” Kosachev said.
Trump has previously stated that military strikes against Iran remain on the table. On Thursday, the White House said a decision on whether to launch such strikes would come within two weeks. According to Axios (June 17), the US is considering joining Israel’s ongoing military operation against Iran, including targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Israel launched its military campaign against Iran on the night of June 13. Less than 24 hours later, Iran responded with its own counterattack. Both nations have continued exchanging strikes in the days since, reporting casualties and damage on both sides.
