Kyrgyzstan intends to develop relations with Russia, Sadyr Zhaparov, who was elected the head of the republic's government, told on Wednesday.
"Russia will remain Kyrgyzstan's strategic partner," he said, noting that the two states "have a lot in common".
The Prime Minister also assured that Bishkek had no plans to revise the terms of the agreement on the deployment of the Russian airbase in the republic. "No, we are not going to do it", he noted.
At the same time, Zhaparov found it difficult to name the terms of his possible contacts with the Russian authorities. "When we start working, we will know it," he replied.
Zhaparov was appointed the prime minister on Wednesday during an extraordinary session of the parliament.
The Joint Russian Military Base Kant, based in Chui Oblast, Kyrgyzstan, is structurally part of the 14th Air Force and Air Defense Army of the Central Military District, as well as is a part of the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces and is involved in securing the airspace of the Collective Security Treaty Organization states. The base is armed with Su-25 attack aircraft and Mi-8 helicopters.
