Kyrgyz Security Council: S-300 Systems to Boost National Air Defense

29 April

The S-300 surface-to-air missile systems delivered by Russia to Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Defense will significantly strengthen the country’s air defense capabilities, according to Kyrgyz Security Council Secretary Marat Imankulov.

“These systems are essential for securing our airspace. This is a new capability for us, and we absolutely need it,” Imankulov told TASS. “We will continue working on upgrading our air defense. Modern warfare—especially the ongoing special military operation—shows the growing use of drones. Our military is studying these developments, and we will continue cooperation in this area.”

Earlier, a source in Kyrgyzstan’s Defense Ministry confirmed to TASS that the country’s air defense forces had received S-300 systems from Russia.

On Tuesday, national TV channel ElTR aired footage of the newly acquired Russian air defense systems, including S-300PS long-range systems and Tor-M2KM short-range systems, ahead of the May 8 military parade in Bishkek. The broadcast showed at least two Tor-M2KM launchers mounted on KamAZ trucks, three mobile S-300PS launchers, and six upgraded Belarusian Pechora S-125-2BM systems.
