Kyrgyzstan Detains Suspect in Attempt to Seize Power in the Country

22 April

The State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of Kyrgyzstan has detained a citizen suspected of attempting a violent takeover of power, who was on the wanted list. This was reported by the press center of the GKNB.

"In the course of operations conducted on April 22, 2024, in the village of Kaindy, Panfilov district, Chui region, the GKNB detained a Kyrgyz Republic citizen, Imamidin Tashov, wanted for attempted violent seizure of power," stated the message.

According to the press center, the suspect was apprehended after illegally crossing the state border of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan while trying to travel from the Kazakh city of Almaty to the Kyrgyz city of Kara-Balta.

The GKNB asserts that Tashov had planned to establish "a temporary headquarters on Kyrgyzstan's territory to rally forces for a protest action with subsequent power seizure." The press center reminded that the suspect had been previously declared internationally wanted due to inciting violence for power seizure and abuse of authority.

"While on the wanted list, Tashov engaged in active recruitment through social networks, misleading the population into supporting his power seizure agenda," emphasized the message.
