Kyrgyz citizens working abroad should come back and take up jobs inside the country, said Kamchybek Tashiev, head of the State Committee for National Security.
“Our people leave to earn a living and become migrants in foreign countries. They need to return,” Tashiev said, as quoted by Kaktus. “The president has said before that we will be bringing migrants back, and the time has come. They can work in construction, operate heavy equipment, and serve the nation.”
He noted a severe labor shortage, pointing out that 127 projects are currently underway in Naryn Region alone.
On July 24, Deputy Foreign Minister Almaz Imangaziyev met in Bishkek with Russia’s Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Sergey Vakunov to discuss possible pre-departure screening for Kyrgyz migrant workers heading to Russia.
Russia remains the main destination for Kyrgyz workers abroad. Estimates suggest between 300,000 and 600,000 Kyrgyz nationals are currently employed in the Russian Federation.
