Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said during a telephone conversation that it was unacceptable to internationalize the crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh by involving foreign fighters, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports.
As it was pointed out in the Ministry, the sides discussed the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh. "The necessity of ensuring a sustainable ceasefire between Armenia and Azerbaijan as soon as possible is emphasized," the report says.
"The ministers stressed the non-alternativeness of a peaceful solution to the problem, the need for an immediate ceasefire and resumption of the negotiation process within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group mechanisms. They especially noted the inadmissibility of internationalization of the crisis through the involvement of foreign fighters," the report says.
The Foreign Ministry added that the parties discussed the situation in the Middle East region in detail. Regarding Libya, they confirmed "mutual interest in establishing a comprehensive inter-Libyan dialogue with the participation of leading political forces and associations" and emphasized the importance of the work carried out under the auspices of the UN.
"It was agreed to continue active bilateral contacts, including through ministries of foreign affairs, military agencies and special services, to help resolve the situation in Syria and promote the political process in line with the fundamental resolutions of the UN Security Council and agreements between participants in the Astana format," the Ministry informed.
The parties also exchanged views on topical issues of the bilateral agenda and the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean.
