Lavrov and President of Uzbekistan discuss regional security

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed regional security problems in Tashkent on Thursday, the Russian MFA said in a statement.


"There was an exchange of views on topical issues of the international agenda and problems of regional security on the eve of a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's Council of Heads of State," the diplomatic office said. - "The sides confirmed their intention to expand mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries and to maintain the high dynamics of the Russia-Uzbekistan strategic partnership and alliance."


Lavrov arrived in Tashkent the day before. Earlier on Thursday, he met with a member of the State Council, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and the head of the presidential administration of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov. On Friday, the Russian foreign minister will attend a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of SCO member states.
