Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the head of Sudan's Sovereign Council, Army General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, discussed the development of bilateral dialogue by phone on Thursday, and also noted the need to activate the bilateral intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation.

"The state and prospects of further development of traditionally friendly Russian-Sudanese relations were discussed. The foreign policy coordination of Moscow and Khartoum at the UN and other international platforms was highly appreciated. The importance of activation of the Russian-Sudanese intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation in expanding the business partnership between the two countries was noted," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

As noted in Smolensk Square, while discussing the situation in Sudan, the Russian Foreign Minister stressed support for efforts to resolve the internal political crisis in the country. "The inadmissibility of any external interference in Sudan's affairs was noted," the diplomatic office stressed.
