Lavrov Announces High-Level Cooperation Achieved in the Caspian Sea

05 December 2023

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed that cooperation in the Caspian Sea has reached a significant level, and he emphasized the potential for further enhancement through the establishment of the Caspian Council. This statement was made during a meeting with the foreign ministers of the Caspian littoral states - Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan.

"Today, we can confidently state that cooperation in the Caspian Sea has reached a high level. However, additional efforts are required to enhance the quality of the five-party interaction and reinforce its international legal framework. The creation of the Caspian Council, a forum for cooperation and dialogue free from bureaucratic constraints, could further enhance the efficiency of our collaborative efforts," he remarked.

"Our today's meeting is solely dedicated to addressing these tasks. We have discussed a broad spectrum of topics crucial for the implementation of decisions made during the Caspian summits. Our focus is on various practical issues and the consideration of several draft documents," added the head of the Russian foreign ministry.
