Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Kabul and Islamabad, mediated by Qatari and Turkish authorities, to halt cross-border clashes along the Afghan-Pakistani frontier, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The ministers “called for continued dialogue between the two friendly states to resolve differences through political and diplomatic means, in the interest of regional stability and security.”
During their phone conversation, the diplomats also discussed attempts by Britain, Germany, and France to launch an anti-Iran campaign at the UN Security Council and IAEA Board of Governors.
The foreign ministers further exchanged views on current bilateral and regional issues, including aspects of Russia-Iran relations. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to fully implementing the Russia-Iran Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty, which entered into force on October 2.
The phone call was held at Iran's initiative.
