Russia is not interested in any country in the Middle East repeating the fate of Libya, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.
During the online session of the Primakov readings, the Foreign Minister noted that Russia was not interested in pushing the heads of various states in the region, so as to get a pretext and an excuse to continue and even expand its military presence here.
"We are interested in developing mutually beneficial trade, economic, investment and other ties with these countries. And in this context, we do not want any other country in this region to repeat the fate of Libya, which was simply deprived of its statehood and does not know how to glue it together now," Lavrov said.
In Libya, a standoff continues between the Government of National Accord (GNA) of Fayez Sarraj, which controls Tripoli and territories in the West of the country, and the LNA under the command of Marshal Khalifa Haftar, which cooperates with the Parliament sitting in the East. The GNA is supported by Turkey, while the LNA is supported by Egypt.
