21 February 2022

Negotiations to localize production of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine in a number of Middle Eastern and North African countries are at an advanced stage, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an address to participants of the 11th Middle East Conference of the Valdai International Discussion Club. The text of the address was read by Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and African countries and Deputy Foreign Minister.

"We work closely with our Middle Eastern friends to minimize the negative consequences of the coronavirus infection. Already more than 10 countries in the region have registered the Russian vaccine Sputnik V. Negotiations to localize its production in several states of the Middle East and North Africa are at an advanced stage," he said.

Sputnik V was registered in Russia on August 11, 2020, and was the world's first officially registered vaccine against coronavirus. So far, the drug has been registered in 70 countries with a total population of 4 billion people.
