Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ilham Ahmed, chairman of the executive committee of the Kurdish "Council of Democratic Syria", discussed the situation in the northeast of Syria on Tuesday.
"During the conversation there was a discussion of the situation in the SAR with a focus on the situation in the northeastern region of the country. Special attention was paid to the task of promoting a political settlement in Syria on the basis of UN Security Council Resolution 2254, the restoration of its economy and social sphere, the return of refugees and internally displaced persons, the provision of humanitarian aid to those in need," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Russian side reiterated its readiness to continue facilitating inter-Syrian agreements in various formats for the sake of the soonest restoration in full measure of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and ensuring legal rights of all ethnic and religious groups of the country's population.
On the same day, Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian Presidential Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister, held consultations with Ahmed.
