Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed in a telephone conversation on Monday the ongoing attacks of the Yemeni rebel movement Ansar Allah (Houthis) on UAE civilian facilities and the tasks of launching a peaceful settlement of the situation in Yemen as soon as possible.

"The current situation in and around Yemen in light of the ongoing attacks of the Houthis movement Ansar Allah on civilian objects on the territory of the Emirates was discussed in detail. The sides stressed the futility of solving the protracted conflict in Yemen by force and the need to launch a peace process as soon as possible through comprehensive negotiations to find political solutions with the participation and interests of all leading political forces, confessional and regional groups of this country," the Russian MFA said in a statement.

The heads of the diplomatic departments did not neglect the topical issues of further strengthening of multifaceted Russian-Emirati relations. "Special attention was paid to the tasks of practical implementation of the agreements reached as a result of bilateral contacts at the highest level," it was stressed. - "The ministers spoke in favor of further dense and productive coordination of steps on the Yemeni settlement and other foreign policy topics at various international platforms, first of all at the UN and its Security Council." The conversation was held on the initiative of the UAE.

Earlier on Monday night, the UAE Defense Ministry said it had intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles that were heading to Abu Dhabi. Ansar Allah members carried out a drone and ballistic missile attack on the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) infrastructure, as well as a construction site near the UAE capital's international airport on January 17. A fire at one of the ADNOC facilities killed four people and injured more than five.
