Lavrov discussed with Uzbek Foreign Minister preparations for President's visit to Russia

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed with Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov on Tuesday preparations for a state visit to Russia by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.


"The sides discussed preparations for the state visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Russian Federation, a list of planned bilateral documents to be signed," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement following the ministers' telephone conversation.


Smolensk Square reported that the ministers exchanged views on the most pressing international and regional agendas, including the situation in Afghanistan, as well as preparations for the upcoming SCO summit meeting in Dushanbe in July and an international conference on Central and South Asia in Tashkent.


In April, the Uzbek leader's press secretary, Sherzod Asadov, said the Uzbek president's state visit to Russia, which was postponed from 2020 to 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic, would be organized in accordance with the epidemic situation. The last time Mirziyoyev came to Russia on a working visit last summer, when a parade was held in Moscow in honor of the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
