Russia’s new partnership treaty with Iran lays out a long-term roadmap for cooperation in all key areas over the next two decades, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said as he opened talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Moscow.
“In our relations, the defining event of 2025 was the signing and entry into force of the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement,” Lavrov noted. “It formalizes the special nature of our cooperation and sets priorities across all major areas for the next 20 years.”
He added that President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had already discussed the practical steps stemming from the treaty in their recent talks. “Today is a good opportunity for us to look at how our foreign ministries can help deliver on those goals,” Lavrov said.
