Lavrov Highlights Significant Resource Potential of Russia and Africa

30 October

Russia and African nations possess substantial resource potential, making enhanced cooperation in this field particularly important, stated Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in his address to participants of the Russia-Africa Resource Dialogue at St. Petersburg Mining University.

"Russia and African countries hold extensive resource capabilities, particularly in the mining sector which plays a vital role in our economies," Lavrov's message noted. "Expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in this area is formally outlined in the 2023-2026 Action Plan of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum."

The foreign minister emphasized that the event's agenda supports broader efforts to deepen Russian-African collaboration. Participants will address pressing issues including regulatory improvements for the resource sector and developing qualified personnel. "This work, aimed at strengthening African nations' economic, technological and energy sovereignty, deserves full support," Lavrov stated.

"I am confident today's discussions will proceed constructively and help establish cooperation mechanisms in the mineral resources sphere," he continued. "The resulting recommendations will contribute meaningfully to the upcoming second ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, scheduled for November in Cairo."
