Russia expects the ceasefire agreement in Libya to be immediately backed up by practical steps, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told at a press conference following negotiations with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias.
"Good news about Libya [at the meeting] came from Geneva, where negotiations between the delegations of Tripoli and Benghazi took place under the auspices of the UN. We hope that the truce, which was announced, will be immediately supported by concrete steps to create an appropriate mechanism and that the processes of political settlement will not be postponed," Lavrov said.
On October 23 the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) informed that the parties to the Libyan conflict signed an agreement on "permanent ceasefire in Libya" in Geneva. The document was signed by representatives of the parties who had been conducting negotiations in Geneva since October 19 and Stephanie Williams, acting special envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Libya and head of UNSMIL.
