Lavrov pointed to attempts to " heat up" the situation in Asia

Moscow sees attempts to destabilize the geopolitical situation in Asia on the part of military and narrow-minded political structures, which prevent interstate cooperation in the region, Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday, speaking at a meeting of foreign ministers of the countries participating in the Conference on interaction and confidence-building measures in Asia.

"Unfortunately, geopolitical arrangements in the region are not getting any easier, hindering its transition to a system of coordinates of comprehensive multilateral cooperation and integration. We see purposeful attempts to "heat up" the situation and undermine the existing mechanisms of interstate cooperation," Lavrov noted.

According to him, the destabilization of the situation in Asia is caused by "the narrow structures of exclusive composition and military blocs working in the logic of the Cold War and the policy of containment.

The situation in Asia worsened in the spring of 2021 when the Taliban (banned in Russia) launched a large-scale operation to establish control over Afghanistan after the announcement of the US decision to withdraw its armed forces from the country. On August 15, the radicals entered Kabul without a fight, and president Ashraf Ghani left the republic. On September 6, the Taliban declared that they had taken control of all the territory of Afghanistan; on September 7, they announced the composition of the provisional government.
