Russia is currently summarizing the opinions and proposals of African countries to form a detailed agenda for the Russia-Africa summit in July. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this at a press conference following talks with his counterpart from Eritrea Osman Mohammad.
"We are summarizing opinions and proposals coming from African countries in the context of forming a detailed summit agenda. It consists of four major sections: food and energy security, technology transfer, health. These are obvious priorities for the whole world and especially for Africa," the minister said.
He noted that of these agendas, technology transfer is of particular importance to Africa "to overcome dependence on external factors." At the same time, Lavrov pointed out that during his African tour, spent in South Africa, Eswatini, Angola and Eritrea, he heard similar assessments of the state of affairs in the economy.
"First of all, [they coincide] in terms of the growing desire of African countries and the African Union to shed the negative consequences of the colonial past, which are still very much present," Lavrov explained. - "The agreements being prepared for the summit will be summarized in a political declaration in an action plan for 2024-2026."
The second Russia-Africa summit and economic forum is scheduled for July 26-29. The first event was held October 22-24, 2019 in Sochi under the slogan "For Peace, Security and Development."
