Lavrov: Russia Calls for Immediate End to Aggression Against Iran

31 March

Russia views the use of military force against civilians and non-military infrastructure as unacceptable and advocates for an immediate halt to US and Israeli operations against Iran, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a general meeting of the Russian International Affairs Council.

"Russia calls for an immediate end to the US and Israel aggression against Iran," Lavrov stated. "We consider the use of military force against civilians and civilian infrastructure to be inadmissible, regardless of whether it occurs in Iran or within the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)."

The foreign minister highlighted that alongside Iran, GCC countries are also suffering significant negative impacts from the current instability. He reaffirmed Russia's readiness to provide mediation services to help all parties involved find a path back to a political and diplomatic resolution.

Lavrov further criticized recent international actions, characterizing them as attempts to facilitate "state coups" under various pretexts — ranging from combating drug trafficking to dismantling a regime accused of decades of global terrorism. He argued that the ultimate goal of these "initiatives" is to secure control over vast oil and gas resources. "It is clear that this is the true meaning behind many of the actions we are witnessing, all of which have fully manifested in the current crisis within the Persian Gulf and the broader Middle East," Lavrov concluded.
