Lavrov: Russia Does Not Pursue Partnerships at the Expense of Others’ Ties

03 September

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow does not build partnerships in a way that harms its partners’ relationships with other countries, including the United States. He made the remarks in an interview with the Indonesian newspaper Kompas.

“We value our bilateral relations with every country for their own sake. We never establish partnerships against any other nation. Our trade relations—including with major economies like Indonesia—are not meant to undermine their ties with other countries, the US included,” Lavrov stressed.

He added that Russia intends to continue developing equitable, mutually beneficial cooperation with anyone willing to engage on similar terms. “This applies to the overwhelming majority of countries in the Global South and East, who are keen to expand trade and economic links with Russia for the benefit of their citizens. Among these are our strategic partners and BRICS allies—including, I am confident, our friends in Indonesia,” said the minister.
