Moscow expects the second Russia-Africa summit to take place in 2022 on the African continent, as agreed at the first summit in Sochi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday at a press conference following talks with Sierra Leonean Foreign Minister David Francis.
"We expect that the second summit, as agreed in Sochi, will take place in 2022 already on the continent. We are counting on Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio to be able to attend the second summit, as he did at the Sochi summit," he said.
"We both have the best impression that we exchanged today, on the results of the first ever Russia-Africa summit, which took place in Sochi in October 2019. We talked about what measures have been taken in the Russian Federation not only to implement the agreements reached during the summit, but also to create systemic, permanent mechanisms to develop our cooperation both in the form of political dialogue and through the promotion of economic, investment cooperation," the minister added.
The first Russia-Africa summit was held in Sochi on October 23-24, 2019, co-chaired by Russian and Egyptian presidents Vladimir Putin and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. It was attended by representatives from all 54 countries of the continent, 43 of which were represented at the highest level.
