Moscow sees promising opportunities in a number of areas of interaction with N'Djamena to boost bilateral cooperation. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday at a press conference following talks with Chadian Foreign Minister Mahamat Zene Cherif.
The head of the diplomatic mission said that after the meeting the sides emphasized their interest in further promoting the whole range of bilateral relations with special attention to "improving the efficiency and increasing the volume of trade, economic and investment partnership".
"Of course, we have very modest figures so far, but we have agreed to assist the relevant authorities and business communities to develop direct contacts. There are, according to our estimates, good opportunities in the field of energy, geological exploration, information technology, agriculture, health," he said.
The Minister also drew attention to the well-developed humanitarian sphere of cooperation. "We continue the well-proven practice of training young professionals for the Republic of Chad. Today we have several hundred citizens of this country undergoing training, and in total, about 2,500 citizens of Chad have been educated in our country," he continued.
Lavrov expressed gratitude to his African colleague for the detailed information on the situation inside the republic, including preparations for the general elections. "We support the constructive steps that the transitional government is taking to achieve political unity and stability. We commend this government's plans for a nationally inclusive dialogue," he said.
The minister also praised the interaction between the parties through foreign policy agencies. "We have a memorandum of 2013, which laid down the principles of such cooperation. We will expand coordination at the UN and other multilateral platforms and hold regular consultations on relevant topics," he summarized.
