Lavrov: Russia will continue to seek lifting of restrictions on fertilizer supplies

08 February 2023

Russia will keep applying to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in order to get him to lift restrictions on supplies of Russian fertilizers and food to the world markets, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday at a press conference following talks with Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzouk.

"We will actively continue to encourage the UN secretary-general to seek, as part of his package initiative, the removal of illegal artificial obstacles that the United States and its allies maintain in the way of logistical and financial chains for the delivery of Russian fertilizers and food to the world markets," he said.

Lavrov added that African countries are interested in Russian supplies of hydrocarbon fuel, food and fertilizers. "We have spoken about it in detail today, we are ready to meet the demands of Mauritania and other African countries in these products," the minister added.
