Moscow and Tashkent are conducting a trusting political dialogue and working on preparations for the visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Russia. This is stated in an article by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for a special issue of the Budget magazine for the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
"The necessary impetus for further deepening of the strategic partnership and alliance is given by a particularly trusting political dialogue at the highest and highest levels. We have achieved and are implementing large-scale agreements on the implementation of joint projects worth tens of billions of dollars as a result of meetings at the summit," - said the head of the Russian foreign ministry. - "For example, during Russian President Vladimir Putin's state visit to Tashkent in October 2018, a package of agreements and contracts worth over $27 billion was signed. Now the preparations for the state visit to Russia by the Uzbek leader are on the agenda."
Mirziyoyev's official visit to Moscow, scheduled for last spring, was postponed indefinitely because of the coronavirus pandemic. During this visit, it is planned to sign a number of agreements on joint implementation of major infrastructure projects. In particular, it is planned to sign an agreement to begin construction of Central Asia's first nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region of the country. It is expected that in accordance with the intergovernmental agreement concluded in 2018, the State Corporation "Rosatom" will build a complex of two power units of "three plus" generation with VVER-1200 reactor units. The visit will also include the official opening of the Uzbekistan pavilion at VDNKh in Moscow, which will mark the republic's return to this major Russian exhibition.
