Russia is prepared to continue helping identify practical steps toward resolving Sudan’s internal political conflict, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during an ambassadorial roundtable on the conflict in Ukraine.
Lavrov noted that Moscow has repeatedly urged the opposing sides in Sudan to open a dialogue and start negotiations. He added that some countries interested in seeing the crisis resolved had also put forward their own ideas.
“There were proposals encouraging your government to begin talks with the actors you described as external forces. Unfortunately, that dialogue never took shape,” Lavrov said. “The proposal was made, and we passed it along. I’m convinced that rather than focusing on publicly accusing anyone, efforts now need to be directed toward finding real, workable solutions. We are ready to assist, and we do have the means to do so.”
“If your government is willing, we’ll do our best to put those capabilities to use,” he concluded.
