Lavrov Talks About Russia-US Tensions

05 December

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has attributed the strained relations between Russia and the United States to America's intractability. Speaking at a press coference, Lavrov stated, "The core issue in our relationship with the US is their inability to keep their word; they are unreliable in agreements."

He pointed to historical examples, beginning with the agreements reached between Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan in Malta, and extending to commitments made under the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

"They promised not to expand NATO, yet did the exact opposite," Lavrov noted. "The OSCE summit documents clearly stated that no organization in this region would claim dominance. NATO has been doing the opposite for years. Such examples are abundant, including their handling of the Ukrainian crisis," he added.
