Lavrov: The Situation in Syria Remains Difficult

25 February

The internal political situation in Syria remains unstable, and attempts to push certain regions toward separatism are extremely dangerous and unacceptable. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated this during a press conference following talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

"The situation there is not simple. Contradictions remain, sometimes escalating into clashes. We will do everything we can to help stabilize the situation, ensuring that it poses no threat—neither to the Syrian people, whose fate is extremely important to us, nor to the neighboring states," Lavrov said.

He emphasized that Syria’s territorial integrity is of fundamental importance, and any attempts to encourage separatism in parts of the country, which have been observed in recent years, are absolutely unacceptable and extremely dangerous.

Lavrov also noted that during the talks, the Russian and Iranian sides reaffirmed their commitment to coordinating efforts to achieve long-term peace and stability in Syria, with the participation of all political, ethnic, and religious groups.

"The inclusiveness of stabilization processes in Syria is extremely important," the Russian Foreign Minister stressed. "We are looking forward to the results of the all-Syrian national congress, which has begun today and will discuss the future development of the Syrian state."
