Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is set to participate in the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), scheduled for October 12 in Bishkek. This information was conveyed during a briefing by Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"On October 12, in Bishkek, the Russian foreign minister will participate in the recurring meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers. It's worth noting that in 2023, the Republic of Kyrgyzstan holds the chairmanship of the Commonwealth," stated the diplomat.
Zakharova also mentioned that during the meeting, the foreign ministers will share their perspectives on current international and regional matters. They intend to deliberate on the potential directions for multifaceted collaboration within the CIS framework, considering Russia's forthcoming presidency in the organization, commencing on January 1, 2024.
"As part of our efforts to intensify foreign policy coordination, the ministers will approve draft joint statements on several significant international topics, which will then be presented for consideration by the CIS leaders on October 13. Additionally, they will approve the plan for inter-ministerial consultations for the year 2024," - stated the official spokesperson of the foreign ministry. - "Our focus will also be on bolstering collaboration in law enforcement, cultural, and humanitarian domains, along with expanding the Commonwealth's international connections. In light of the Year of the Russian language as a means of interethnic communication, which has been declared this year in the CIS, we will make decisions aimed at promoting its use within the Commonwealth and globally."
