Lavrov to Hold Talks with Iranian Authorities

19 February

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that he plans to engage in discussions with Iranian officials in the near future. Speaking during a government session in the State Duma, Lavrov addressed questions regarding Iran’s ratification of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea.

He noted that Iran has linked the ratification process to the issue of defining “baseline points,” which determine the national maritime zones of each Caspian state. “We have proposed a series of expert-level solutions, which our Iranian colleagues are currently reviewing. I will have contact with Iranian representatives soon, and these issues will be raised at our meetings,” Lavrov stated.

The minister also recalled that in 2023, under his leadership, Russia established an interdepartmental commission on Caspian cooperation. “Through this platform, we are developing initiatives aimed at assisting our Iranian friends in completing the ratification process,” he added.
