Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is set to attend the ASEAN events in Jakarta on July 13-14, as confirmed by Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry, during a briefing on Thursday.
"During his visit, Minister Lavrov will participate in the regular meeting of foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in various formats, including Russia-ASEAN, the East Asia Summit and the ASEAN Regional Forum on Security (ARF)," Zakharova stated.
She further highlighted that Russia's efforts will focus on advancing Russian interests in the Asia-Pacific region while maintaining a balanced and equitable approach that aligns with contemporary realities in interstate relations. The spokesperson emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with ASEAN, which is considered one of Russia's most significant strategic partners. Enhancing coordination with ASEAN-centric platforms such as the East Asia Summit and the ASEAN Regional Forum on Security is also a key objective for Russia.
