Lavrov Welcomes Indonesia’s Full Membership in BRICS

17 June

Russia welcomes Indonesia’s entry into BRICS as a full member and looks forward to deepening cooperation with Jakarta on global issues, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the start of talks with his Indonesian counterpart, Sugiono.

“We’re very pleased with the strong cooperation we’ve built on the international stage—it continues to grow and evolve. Indonesia’s full membership in BRICS is something we warmly welcome,” Lavrov said.

He added that Russia values its collaboration with Indonesia within the UN, the G20, and the Russia–ASEAN dialogue framework.

“We appreciate Indonesia’s constructive and pragmatic approach, which is clearly guided by national interests. This is reflected across all areas of our relationship—from trade and economics to humanitarian efforts, politics, and security,” Lavrov continued. “We expect to review all of these areas today and share our joint outlook with the presidents of both countries.”

Lavrov also recalled that Russia and Indonesia recently celebrated 75 years of diplomatic relations—ties that continue to be marked by mutual trust and goodwill. According to the minister, this spirit of cooperation reflects the two nations’ shared views on key global challenges.
