Lebanese Court Orders Release of Gaddafi's Son on $11 Million Bail

17 October

A Lebanese court has ruled to release Hannibal Gaddafi, son of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi (1942-2011), on bail set at $11 million. The investigative judge made this decision following an October 17 interrogation at the Palace of Justice, according to statements from the defendant's lawyer.

The 50-year-old Gaddafi has been detained in Lebanon since 2015, when he was abducted by militants from the Amal Movement from neighboring Syria—where he had been living in political exile—and handed over to Lebanese authorities. In 2017, he was formally charged with concealing information regarding the whereabouts of Shia imam Musa al-Sadr, who disappeared in Libya in 1978.
