The Libyan army said on Sunday that some parties are trying to use the demonstrations and protests across Libya to provoke a new armed conflict in the country. Major General Ahmed al-Mismari, an official spokesman for the Libyan National Army, told Al Hadath TV channel on Sunday.

"There are parties trying to use the demonstrations so that they turn into an armed conflict," he said. - "Our armed forces are committed to protecting their participants, and the army will never abandon its people to their fate."

According to al-Mismari, "demonstration is the inalienable right of every Libyan." "We will confront anyone who tries to change the course of the demonstrations and will intervene if they are threatened," the general warned.

Demonstrations were held in several Libyan cities on Friday, which in places turned into riots. Thus, protesters stormed and set fire to the House of Representatives (Parliament) building in Tobruk in eastern Libya. A crowd of people destroyed parts of the building's facade and gates. Demonstrators destroyed documents, burned offices and reception halls.

There was unrest in Misrata and Sebha, and in Tripoli, protesters, backed by youth movements, blocked several neighbourhoods in the capital, demanding the dissolution of all authorities, better living conditions and the speedy holding of presidential and parliamentary elections. They also insist that a state of emergency be declared in the country and that all foreign soldiers and mercenaries withdraw.
