Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said that he and Russian president Vladimir Putin had discussed the situation in Afghanistan in detail during a meeting on Thursday.
"Today we have discussed in detail current international problems, our relations with neighboring countries and associations, we have dwelled on the situation in instability zones, first of all in Afghanistan, in terms of threats to the national security of the Union State of Russia and Belarus," Lukashenko said.
According to him, the countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will adopt a unified position on security issues against the background of the events in Afghanistan at the upcoming meeting in Dushanbe.
"The primary importance is to ensure comprehensive security of our countries and the CSTO. We will adopt a unified position on this issue during the upcoming events in Dushanbe," Lukashenko said. He notes that even Belarus, being in the center of Europe, "far from the theater of military operations, has felt the effects of the Afghan crisis".
"Look at what is going on with the refugees on our borders, and how the progressive West behaves, moreover, constantly rattling weapons," noted the president.
CSTO summit is scheduled for September 16 in Dushanbe.
