In 2024, the Maldives welcomed more than two million international tourists, marking the highest figure in the nation's history, according to the country's ministry of tourism. This milestone surpasses the 1.8 million visitors recorded in 2023 and the 1.6 million in 2022.
“This year has been a record-breaking one for our country. February saw the highest monthly tourist arrivals ever, with 217,000 visitors. It was also the fastest year for us to reach the milestone of one million tourists,” said Ibrahim Faisal, the Minister of Tourism of Maldives.
For 2025, the government aims to boost these figures by 15%, targeting at least 2.2 million visitors.
China ranked as the top source of tourists, contributing over 260,000 visitors, followed by Russia with nearly 220,000.
The Maldives boasts 174 resorts, 855 guesthouses, and 15 large hotels. Additionally, in November, the Russian Federation inaugurated its first-ever consulate general in the Maldivian capital.
