Mali's Interim President Receives Russian Defense Delegation

Interim President of Mali Assimi Goita welcomed a high-ranking Russian delegation, led by the Deputy Defence Minister of the Russian Federation, Colonel-General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, according to an official statement released by the President's administration and posted on X (previously known as Twitter).

 

"Colonel Assimi Goita, Interim President, hosted Colonel-General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, the Deputy Defence Minister of the Russian Federation, at the presidential palace of Koulouba. Yevkurov arrived in Mali at the head of a high-ranking delegation on an official visit," the statement read.

 

As reported by the Bamako portal, discussions during the meeting centered around defence and security cooperation between Mali and Russia, along with an assessment of the prevailing situation in the Sahel region.

 

Prior to the tête-à-tête, a productive working session took place at the palace, involving Russian investors and representatives of the Malian government. The meeting focused on analyzing Mali's requirements for executing developmental programs.
