Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko has brought a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin to King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, which is imbued with a mood to deepen the already established bilateral cooperation and extend this experience of interaction to new areas.
"The leaders of our countries, between which we have established relations of trust, attach particular importance to deepening the cooperation that has already been established and to extending this experience to new areas of mutual interest. The President's message to His Majesty the King of Bahrain, which I have the honor to deliver on behalf of the Russian head of state, is permeated with the same spirit," the Speaker of the Federation Council said at the meeting of the Advisory Council of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
She added that Russia is "looking forward to strengthening the positive momentum and serious progress" taking into account the great potential of cooperation of the two countries.
Matvienko said that she is visiting Bahrain for the first time "and has already appreciated the hospitality".
The Speaker of the Upper House of Parliament also recalled that last year was marked by the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Bahrain. "All this time we have strengthened contacts based on the principles of mutual respect and friendship. Russia views Bahrain as a reliable partner in the Arab world," she added.
The press service of the Federation Council clarified that Matviyenko was the first speaker of a foreign parliament in the history of Bahraini parliamentarianism to address the Advisory Council of the Kingdom's National Assembly from the rostrum.
Matvienko's meeting with the King of Bahrain is expected to be held on Monday.
