Matviyenko Highlights Strong and Friendly Relations with Iran

11 February

Russia greatly values the positive trajectory of its time-tested, strong, and friendly relations with Iran, and the deepening dialogue between the lawmakers of both nations will further strengthen the strategic partnership. This was expressed in a congratulatory message from Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of Russia’s Federation Council, to Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, on the occasion of the national holiday commemorating the Victory of the Islamic Revolution.

“We highly appreciate the positive dynamics in the development of Russian-Iranian ties, whose strength and friendly nature have stood the test of time. Our approaches to addressing regional and global issues are either closely aligned or completely identical,” Matviyenko wrote.

She emphasized that the agreements signed in January 2025 between Russia and Iran marked a new phase in their interstate cooperation. “I am convinced that deepening the dialogue between the legislators of our countries will contribute to the further strengthening of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” she noted.

The chairperson also wished her Iranian colleagues good health and success in their important work.

On January 17, 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in Moscow. This agreement established a legal framework for the long-term development of bilateral relations, solidifying the status of Russia and Iran as strategic partners. The treaty spans a wide range of areas, including defense, counterterrorism, energy, finance, transportation, industry, agriculture, culture, science, and technology.
