Matviyenko: Russia and Indonesia Share Similar Views on Global Developments

03 February

The trust-based and constructive dialogue between Russia and Indonesia is built on shared perspectives on global processes and a common approach to addressing modern challenges. This was stated in a congratulatory telegram from Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko to Sultan Bakhriar Najamudin, Chairman of Indonesia’s Regional Representative Council (the upper house of parliament).

"Russia values its friendship and productive cooperation with the Republic of Indonesia—a long-standing and reliable partner in the Asia-Pacific region. The constructive and trust-based dialogue between our two countries is founded on similar assessments of global processes and a shared search for solutions to contemporary threats and challenges, including international terrorism," Matviyenko wrote in the telegram, marking the 75th anniversary of Russian-Indonesian diplomatic relations.

She described this milestone as a significant event in the history of both nations, emphasizing that Russia sees the experience accumulated over decades of collaboration as a solid foundation for further expanding bilateral ties in various fields. "We view positively the fact that at the beginning of 2025, Indonesia became a full-fledged member of BRICS, within which we will work together in a multilateral format to make key decisions aimed at establishing a fair global order," she added.

Matviyenko reaffirmed the Federation Council’s commitment to strengthening ties with Indonesia’s Regional Representative Council. "I am confident that close cooperation will contribute to the overall enhancement of Russian-Indonesian relations and serve as an effective tool for implementing the agreements reached by our countries' leaders," the senator noted.

She also extended her best wishes to her Indonesian parliamentary colleagues for success in their public service and wished the people of Indonesia peace and prosperity.
