Matviyenko Underscores Importance of Russia-Africa Legislative Dialogue

Cooperation between Russian and African legislators continues to gain strong momentum, with the African Parliamentary Union (APU) playing a pivotal role, Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the Federation Council, said, marking the 50th anniversary of the APU’s founding.

 

"The development of interaction between Russian and African legislators maintains a high dynamic, and the African Parliamentary Union deserves considerable credit for this," Matviyenko wrote in a letter to Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge, Chairperson of the APU Executive Committee and President of the Senate of the Republic of the Congo. "For the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, as an observer to the African Parliamentary Union, it is especially important to strengthen direct and meaningful dialogue and to expand practical cooperation based on mutual respect and trust."

 

Shenoted that the APU's jubilee is a clear testament to the maturity and influence of parliamentary diplomacy across the African continent. She emphasized that "over the years of its activity, the organization has become a respected platform for seeking compromise solutions and advancing initiatives that serve the interests of the African people."
