Media: 10 Pakistani servicemen wounded in terrorist attack

05 July 2022

At least ten members of Pakistan's security forces were injured in a suicide bombing in North Waziristan District (northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province). The Dawn newspaper reported this on Tuesday, citing the country's Ministry of Defense's interagency public relations service.

It said the incident took place in the town of Mirali, where a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device near a convoy of special forces troops. Ten soldiers were wounded, three of whom were hospitalized in critical condition.

An anti-terrorist operation is underway at the site of the explosion.

Radical groups in North and South Waziristan are seeking to establish the so-called Islamic State of Waziristan.

Waziristan is located in Pakistan's tribal zone on the border with Afghanistan. The highland region is considered a hotspot in Pakistan because of the activation of militants from Al Qaeda (banned in the Russian Federation), the Islamic Movement of East Turkistan (banned in the Russian Federation), the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (banned in the Russian Federation), and the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan and other extremist organizations affiliated with the Taliban (banned in the Russian Federation).
