At least 17 people were injured Sunday in a grenade attack by extremists in Pakistan's Balochistan province, the Doon newspaper reported on Monday, citing police.
It said the incident took place in the eastern provincial town of Dera Allah Yar, where miscreants on a motorcycle threw a hand grenade into a crowd. The explosion injured 17 people, including two traffic police officers.
The victims were taken to the hospital. Four of them are in a critical condition, the newspaper specifies.
None of the extremist groups operating in the country has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.
In recent months there has been tension in Balochistan due to the rise of nationalist and separatist groups opposed to the Pakistani government's efforts to strengthen the centralization of the country. Extremist attacks threaten the security of the province's Gwadar seaport, which is considered a key site of China's global "The Belt and Road Initiative".
