The bodies of an estimated 10,000 Palestinians remain buried beneath the rubble of residential buildings destroyed by Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, according to Al Jazeera, citing a representative from the enclave's civil defense.
The official stated that in Gaza City alone, approximately 4,000 bodies remain unrecovered from the debris. He emphasized that specialized equipment is required for recovery operations, which remains unavailable in the territory despite the ongoing ceasefire.
The report comes as indirect negotiations between Israeli and Hamas delegations continue through mediators from Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Turkey. On October 9, conflicting parties signed an agreement to implement the first phase of a peace plan previously presented by US President Donald Trump, with the Gaza ceasefire taking effect at 12:00 Moscow time on October 10.
